Purpose & Direction

Purpose is not a mission statement and it is not your job title. For most of your life the direction got set for you. School, then career, then the next rung, and then one day the ladder stops handing you the next thing and you notice a dread on Sunday nights you cannot attach to anything. Jason Lange works with men at exactly that point. What he keeps finding is that purpose is directional before it is nameable. It shows up first as what you find yourself moving toward in your body, over and over, long before you can put a sentence on it. Achievement alone rarely gets you there, because success answers a different question than the one you are actually asking.

If you are here, things are probably fine on paper and hollow underneath. "Why You Feel Like You're Not Driving Your Own Life" offers two compasses for finding direction once school and career stop setting it. "Three Questions Every Man Needs to Be Able to Answer" is the short, hard version: who am I, what do I want, where am I going. "Why Success Alone Won't Save You" has Jason and Dr. Luke Adler on what the achievement numbers miss, and "Feel Death Daily" is the one that reorders your calendar. The archive is below.

WHEN LISTENING ISN’T ENOUGH

The work behind the podcast

Most of what Jason talks about here gets practiced somewhere else, with other men, over months. That’s what the programs are for.
